IN ACCORDANCE with the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act 2005 (the “Act”) QUEEN CITY YACHT CLUB (QCYC) is committed to ensuring that our services are provided in a manner that respects the dignity and independence of people with disabilities as defined in the Act and the Ontario Human Rights Code.
Communications
QCYC will communicate with persons with disabilities in ways that take into account their disability. When asked, QCYC staff will use their best efforts to provide information and communications materials in accessible formats or with communications supports. Staff will be trained to inquire of any guest or member with a disability as to the best method of communication.
Staff will be instructed to speak in clear and plain language and to speak slowly. We will offer to communicate with any disabled person by email if telephone communication is not suitable to their needs or is not available.
Of particular importance to QCYC, tender staff will be trained to provide safety information when asked by persons with disabilities in an accessible manner and to recognize the need to communicate during emergencies so that passengers with disabilities are made aware of the nature of the emergency and the procedures to be followed.
Accessibility, Service Animals and Support Persons
QCYC welcomes people with disabilities and their service animals. Service animals are allowed on the parts of the premises that are open to the public and on club tenders consistent with their safety and the safety of others when proximate to the water.
A person with disability who is accompanied by a support person will be allowed to have that person accompany them on the premises. Tender fees will not be charged for support persons so long as that person is not participating in club activities for their own enjoyment separate from the person being assisted.
Notice of Service Interruption
QCYC will provide members and guests with notice in the event of a planned or unexpected interruption of services or facilities usually used by persons with disabilities. This notice will include, by written and or electronic publication used by the club to communicate to members and/or the public, the reason for the disruption, its duration and the alternative facilities or services that will be available.
Training
QCYC will provide training on an ongoing basis to staff, members and volunteers and others who interact with the public about the provision of accessible facilities and services in accordance with the requirements of the Act, the Ontario Human Rights Code and the policies of QCYC regarding persons with disabilities as developed or amended from time to time.
Feedback
Persons who wish to provide feedback or obtain additional information can let QCYC know verbally or by
