For generations, children have loved the Learn to Sail summer day camp at Queen City Yacht Club. Our summer day camp is affordable. Open to children and teenagers, ages 8 to 17, there are programs for the beginner and for the expert.
Queen City Yacht Club is located in the protected parklands of the Toronto Islands. Use of the club’s private ferry for transportation to the island is included in the day camp fee. During the camp, the children will learn to sail small sailboats. The Boats are provided. The programs are taught by qualified instructors. Each instructional session is for 2 weeks.
Our programs have gained an enviable reputation for having the perfect mix of learning and fun! Many students return year after year and some graduates have even gone on to be a part of the Canadian National Sailing Team!
Working with peers of similar skill levels, students build their confidence and self-discipline by achieving goals set out in courses certified by the Canadian Yachting Association.
Why Sailing?
Sailing is a healthy, outdoor activity that can be done for your entire life and at a variety of levels; it can be an Olympic endeavour or a just relaxing pastime. Sailing is friendly to the environment while offering excitement and fun. It does not require kids to be exceptional athletes but it is a great physical activity.
There is more to it than sailing!
At QCYC’s sailing camp, students develop more than sailing skills. They learn sportsmanship, teamwork, self-respect, discipline, and social skills. All this while getting a great physical and mental workout and building friendships that may last a lifetime.
QCYC and the Islands
Torontonians are fortunate to have a great recreational facility in the form of Lake Ontario and the Toronto Islands on their doorstep. Students spend their day outdoors surrounded by one of the world’s most beautiful urban parks.
They gain an understanding and appreciate for nature, wind, and water. Kids get out of the city without having to leave it!
