Adult Sailing Lessons
Always wanted to learn to sail?
Summer 2013 is the perfect time and Queen City Yacht Club is the perfect place. Learn how to sail and enjoy one of the friendliest sailing clubs on the lake – all for one affordable price! Course options include:
Learn to Cruise (Keelboats)
- A great keelboat program
- Weekend format
- A number of sessions to choose from
- Course complies with CYA Basic Cruising Standard
- Fee includes textbook
- Women’s-only format offered on a demand basis
- Transportation to island on private QCYC tender is included with course fee
Schedule
Courses are taught over two consecutive weekends (four full days). Three to four sessions will be scheduled over the spring and summer, taking into account student demand.
Courses for 2013 are offered on the following dates, dependent upon sufficient enrollment:
Course 1: June 15-16, 22-23
Course 2: July 20-21, 27-28
Course 3: August 17-18, 24-25

More Details
This course, which is internationally recognized Canadian Yachting Association, is designed to teach the beginner the necessary skills to act as both skipper and crew on a boat 23 - 30 feet in length, in moderate weather conditions. The total length of the course is 28 hours, of which approximately 20 hours are on the water and the rest are spent on theory in a classroom setting. Graduates of this course will receive the Canadian Yachting Association, Basic Keelboat Cruising Standard.
Learn to Sail (Dinghies)
- A fun dinghy program for ages 18+!
- Course complies with CYA CANSail standards
- Transportation to island on private QCYC tender is included with course fee
- Learn the basics of sailing (in theory and in practice!)
- Enjoy summer by spending time on the water!
Schedule
Courses are taught over 8 lessons (Tuesdays and Thursdays 6:15-9:15). The final Saturday of each course will be an optional awards BBQ with an afternoon cruise to Wards Beach.
Course 1: 4, 6, 11, 13, 18, 20, 25, 27 (Saturday, June 29)
Course 2: 2, 4, 9, 11, 16, 18, 23, 25 (Saturday, July 27)
Course 3: August course may be scheduled based on demand.

More Details
This course, which is internationally recognized by the Canadian Yachting Association standards, is designed to teach the beginner the necessary skills to act as both skipper and crew on a small dinghy. Participants will enjoy evenings on the water while learning all about sail theory, on-water safety, and practical sailing skills. Graduates of this course will receive CANSail 1 and/or CANSail 2 (CYA certification). Small class sizes of 6-8 people will ensure that you learn as much as possible about sailing during the 8-lesson course.
