Youth Sailing Camp
Registration for 2013 sessions opens on February 1st, 2013
The Learn to Sail summer day camp at Queen City Yacht Club is a fantastic way for your children to spend a few weeks this summer! Our programs have gained an enviable reputation for having the perfect mix of learning and fun. Many students return year after year for multiple sessions at a time! Our summer day camp is affordable and open to children as well as teenagers. Ages 8 to 17, there are programs for the beginner and for the expert!
Use of the club’s private ferry provides transportation to and from the island (included in the day camp fee). During the camp, the children will learn to sail small sailboats provided by QCYC. The programs are taught by qualified instructors who are fully certified in Boat Rescue, First Aid, and Coaching. All our programs follow the Canadian Yachting Association certification system and curriculums.
Why Sailing?
Sailing is a healthy, outdoor activity that can become a passion for the rest of your child's life! In fact, many of our current members started their life-long passion for sailing in our Youth Learn to Sail program. Competition in sailing is very popular in Canada - we offer programs that can lead to provincial and even National racing! Although it can be an olympic endeavor, it can also simply become a relaxing pastime. Sailing is friendly to the environment while offering excitement and fun. It does not require kids to be exceptional athletes but it is a great physical activity!
And it's not just sailing...
At QCYC’s sailing camp, students develop more than sailing skills. They learn sportsmanship, teamwork, and social skills. All this while getting a great exercise and building friendships that may last a lifetime!
QCYC and the Islands
The Toronto Islands are filled with beautiful areas for kids to sail, swim, and play! Students spend their day outdoors surrounded by one of the world’s most beautiful urban parks. Our sailors will get a chance to explore the island on our cruises to locations on the Island such as Wards Beach. They gain an understanding and appreciate for nature, wind, and water. Kids get "out" of the city without actually having to leave it!
Traditions & Events
- Once a session, parents are invited to QCYC after camp to go sailing with their kids and see the club facilities!
- An optional banquet is held close to the end of the summer where parents and students come to the island to enjoy the clubs facilities, eat a banquet-style dinner, see the instructors and awards handed out.
